Supporting Bulldogs Battling Breast Cancer’s Life-Saving Mission

Bulldogs Battling Breast Cancer, a nonprofit based in Georgia providing support for those with breast cancer

Dormie Network is built on creating meaningful experiences that foster lasting relationships—and those same relationships are at the heart of its philanthropic work. Dormie Network Foundation (DNF) proudly supports healthcare needs, including breast cancer nonprofits like Bulldogs Battling Breast Cancer (BBBC). With DNF’s support, BBBC has successfully raised funds for breast cancer through charitable golf events in Georgia —helping provide free mammograms, early-detection education, and lifesaving breast health services to women in need.

DNF Director of Philanthropy Howie Hutchinson says, “Working with BBBC has been very organic and, like most successful partnerships, started with a relationship.”

About Bulldogs Battling Breast Cancer (BBBC)

BBBC was founded by Jay and Teresa Abbott following Teresa’s courageous 18-month battle with an aggressive Stage 3 breast cancer diagnosis in 2003. After enduring months of surgeries, chemotherapy, and radiation, Teresa received the life-changing news that she was cancer-free. During this time, their youngest son, Chris, was playing football at the University of Georgia (UGA).

Grateful for the blessings and support they received, the Abbott family wanted to give back. With the help of UGA Football Coach Mark Richt and the UGA Football Team, they organized the first Annual Bulldogs Battling Breast Cancer Charity Golf Tournament the following summer, which started BBBC.

The organization’s mission is to fight breast cancer through early detection and assist women who may lack the resources to get the services they need to fight this disease.

Howie Hutchinson explains the impact of their work, “BBBC is meaningful to me because their efforts are an example of passionate people coming together to support individuals and families who are battling breast cancer.”

Beginning of Partnership with DNF

DNF partners with nonprofits within four giving pillars. BBBC fits into the healthcare and humanitarian pillar.

BBBC’s longtime creative partner and board member, Dwight Standridge, explains that the partnership between DNF and BBBC stems from a longstanding personal connection with Dormie Network Chief Agronomic Officer Clint Tolbert.

“We both grew up in the Commerce, Georgia community,” Standridge recalls. “Clint’s career in the golf industry made a partnership with BBBC an easy fit, even before he joined Dormie Network. Clint’s always been a great partner, and our relationship with DNF was an easy addition after he was hired.”

What immediately stood out to BBBC about DNF was the intentional connectivity to nonprofits to boost fundraising. Standridge notes, “Dormie Network has a very prestigious golf model, one that emphasizes curating the personal experience of the member or guest while on property. To have a foundation that specifically works to add value and boost fundraising for charities speaks a lot to the brand and character of Dormie Network.”

Standridge says Dormie Network Donated memberships and Stay and Play packages are worth every penny for their donors and significantly elevate their tournaments.

“Our partnership with Dormie Network has been nothing short of amazing—resulting in well over $125,000 in added funds.”

Driving Fundraising for Breast Cancer Through Golf Experiences

Dormie Network experiences can introduce a new fundraising approach for nonprofits, but integrating DNF’s donated memberships into BBBC’s events was seamless.

“Word of mouth is so powerful,” Standridge says. “Once we had a few sponsors or partners who bought donated Stay and Play Packages, it became a very easy sell for us. It is a matter of pairing good with good. These memberships and experiences going to great supporters, all for the good of the charity is such a great model—and an easy sell.”

In many cases, these packages sell well in advance through word-of-mouth alone. Standridge notes that DNF provides a suite of resources to help market the packages to donors, and they are also often used as a meaningful way to thank especially generous supporters whose contributions go above and beyond minimum requirements.

Dormie Network’s premium golf experiences have become a cornerstone of BBBC’s fundraising success—helping donors understand how to support breast cancer charities while receiving unforgettable value in return.

Donor Response to Dormie Network’s Premier Golf Experiences

Standridge says the response from donors has been overwhelmingly positive.

Standridge shares “Every year leading into our events, our donors ask whether we will have Dormie Network Stay and Play Packages or memberships available. The brand sells itself, and it only takes one visit to a Dormie Network property, and word of mouth takes over. I have been lucky enough to visit each Dormie Network property, and the level of hospitality is unmatched.”

Impact of the DNF and BBBC Partnership

DNF has been recognized as a key partner in BBBC’s success, including its role in helping raise over $3,000,000 in total for St. Mary’s Breast Health Services (including a donation for 2025 of $280,000).

“Our mission is the same every year,” Standridge shares. “We raise money to impact the local community in Athens by providing FREE mammograms for women in need, by educating women on the importance of getting screenings done and how EARLY detection can improve outcomes and by purchasing new equipment such as mobile mammograms units to make access to screenings easier. Every dollar raised by partnering with DNF is another life impacted!”

Enhancing Charity Golf Tournaments with GolfStatus

Stay and Play Packages are available to nonprofits that leverage GolfStatus Fundraising Enhancers. GolfStatus, a partner of Dormie Network, is a golf event management platform that streamlines tournaments and helps nonprofits raise thousands more for their cause.

BBBC has used GolfStatus for about five years, hosting two tournaments annually. Standridge credits GolfStatus for elevating their events and simplifying logistics—allowing BBBC to focus on what matters most: supporting those with breast cancer and their families and friends.

“I just had a meeting yesterday with GS about using them for a work event in May. The GolfStatus team is great to work with—very professional and always on call to answer any questions. Shout out to Brenden Holling, whom I have worked with the most,” says Standridge.

“GolfStatus can take a lot off your plate, and if you have hosted and managed a golf tournament before, you know how much work is involved. The GolfStatus registration site is an awesome tool to streamline that process and have everything paid and in order before the event. Add-ons like custom pin flags, signage, HIO packages, technology packages all just elevate your event. GolfStatus has been great to work with on all those items, and we incorporate all the available packages each year,” says Standridge.

Why Healthcare Nonprofits Should Partner with Dormie Network Foundation

When asked whether other healthcare nonprofits should partner with DNF, Standridge does not hesitate:

“It’s a no-brainer,” he says. “It almost feels too good to be true.”

That question is a common one, according to DNF Chief Philanthropy Officer Brian Schenk. You can read his response and learn more about DNF’s approach to nonprofit partnerships here.

Standridge has seen the impact firsthand. “I have shared our story with a few other organizations, and they have partnered with DNF with great results. DNF is doing great work—helping charities to maximize their impact and boost their potential. They will not find a better partner."

Healthcare and humanitarian nonprofits interested in partnering with DNF can learn more about our nonprofit programs and apply for support if there is a strong alignment.

Get Involved with Bulldogs Battling Breast Cancer

Standridge says BBBC’s growth would not be possible without partnerships with service-minded organizations like the one with DNF.

“We have gone from a place where our yearly donation was $8,000-$9,000 to now six-figure amounts,” he says. “In 2025, we anticipate our donation will be around $280,000, and this will be the seventh year in a row that our donation will be six figures.”

Those interested in supporting this breast cancer charity, can email to bulldogsbattlingbreastcancer13@gmail.com. Standridge says BBBC is always open to new partners, volunteers, and sponsors.
